images de ma maison d’enfance à moi à ma grand-mère née Maria Antoinette Fleury le jardin                 voyages en tricyclette                 les gueules-de-loup plus hautes que moi la cour                 on puise l’eau pour la lessive                 matelas de laine qu’elles nettoient la cuisine                 le pan pan du fer et pssht de la marmite                 elles qui parlent sans arrêt le salon                 le poêle tout noir                 visions de naufrages et de noyés la cave                 la bière de grand-mère                 la ténébreuse punition la porte                 par où passent                 les amis, le lait, les légumes, les fruits la fenêtre                 par où on voit la Micheline                 les processions du 15 août la chambre                 de mes cauchemars                 l’allumeur de réverbère est passé images from my childhood to my grandmother born Maria Antoinette Fleury the garden                 trips on my tricycle                 the snapdragons taller than me the yard                 where water is drawn for the washing                 wool mattresses they clean the kitchen                 the thump thump of the iron and pssht of the pot                 they talk non-stop the sitting room                 the stove so black                 visions of shipwrecks and drowning the cellar                 grandmother’s beer                 and dark punishment the door                 through which come                 friends, milk, vegetables, fruit the window                 from which we watch the Micheline                 the processions on August 15 the bedroom                 of my nightmares                 the lamplighter has been published in Words Unbound, anthology of European poetry, October,   L’Arbre à Paroles, Amay, Belgium, 2005 © Anne-Marie Glasheen 1995-2008
